Please join us on Sunday December 13 when Avonova presents the Larry Stefl group. The show starts at 3 PM and the admission is set at $17-$20 sliding scale. Doors open at 2:15. The Larry Stefl Group plays Brazilian jazz compositions of Cartola, Baden Powell, Sergio Mendes, and Tom Jobim plus jazz standards and original compositions, this group of highly accomplished Bay Area musicians will get your pulses racing and your feet tapping with their rhythmic melodies and lyrical stylings.
Larry Stefl, a founding member of the Berkeley Jazz Guitar Ensemble, plays guitar and contributes the vocals. He has studied jazz guitar with Down Beat Award Winner Mimi Fox and master Brazilian guitarist Ricardo Peixoto. Larry has also produced a well received Brazilian/worldbeat CD “Bahia Chant”. Jim Broadstreet on trumpet and flugelhorn brings a wide emotional range, from delicate to fiery, to the mix. Pianist Jim Davidson is a product of the Berkeley High School Jazz Program who studied at the New England Conservatory with Jaki Bayard in the 70’s. Fred Randolph on stand-up bass is a first call player in the Bay Area, as well as an accomplished composer and educator. Drummer and educator Dan Folz, highly regarded for Brazilian rhythms, and percussionist Ray Little, a recent Berkeley High School Jazz Program graduate, round out the group.
