Rebecca Kleinmann Quartet
Friday, Nov 13th, 2015
Rebecca Kleinmann brings together virtuosic and versatile musicians pianist Alex Conde, bassist Gary Brown and drummer Marlon Aldana to form her dynamic quartet. Based in Jazz with strong influences from Spain and Brazil, the RKQ features original music by Kleinmann and Conde along with tunes written for Rebecca by legendary Brazilian composer “wizard” Hermeto Pascoal. The concert will also include new arrangements of pieces by Thelonious Monk, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Paco de Lucia. Having spent time living in both Spain and Brazil, and specializing in performing flamenco and Brazilian genres choro, forró and bossas, Rebecca delves into the influences she loves with the support of instrumentalists deeply versed in these traditions. The quartet fluidly transitions between genres, jumps into odd meters and conversational improvisation, and displays their love of the music with depth, humor and originality while honoring the traditions of Jazz, Brazilian music and Spanish flamenco.
* Rebecca’s flute studio recital will take place prior to the show, at 7pm until about 7:40. You are welcome to attend and/or claim a seat for the concert. Please enter respectfully. You may also socialize outside until the recital is over. Refreshments following the recital. All are welcome.
