Please join us on Sunday December 9, when Avonova presents Winter Moon, with vocalists Cathi Walkup, Shanna Carlson and Linda Kosut.  The singers will be backed up by the Mike Greensill Trio, including Mike on Piano, Vince Lateano on drums and Rich Girard on bass.

In the sign of Libra, on the night of the Waning Crescent Moon, in their second annual “Winter Moon” concert, vocalists Cathi Walkup, Linda Kosut and Shanna Carlson sing songs of winter, the moon, and holiday cheer of all kinds.  Sit back, sip some wine, have a little snack and enjoy the decadent musical treats they have planned for you.  Each of these well-known local jazz artists has a little something special for you –  and with The Mike Greensill Trio as the icing on the sugar cookie, well, it just can’t get any better!   CELEBRATE . . .  the waning crescent moon,  16 more days til Christmas,  2nd night of Chanukah and …a very healthy, happy and prosperous 2013

Cathi Walkup – Bay Area jazz singer/songwriter who has been called “the thinking person’s jazz singer” for her choice of lyric-driven songs, “a natural comedian” for her wit and ease on-stage, and an “important bop oriented singer … and … also an excellent lyricist”, Scott Yanow, respected jazz writer, in his book, “The Jazz Singers, The Ultimate Guide”.  Listen here.

Linda Kosut – San Francisco-based vocalist and Backstage Magazine’s Bistro/BMI Award-Winner, swings jazz, folk & pop, blending songs of these differing genres into unexpected and exciting arrangements. She’s an engaging performer who sings in a style of her own, “with its warm, dark sound and articulate, theatrically trained phrasing”, Don Heckman, Los Angeles Times.  Listen here.

Shanna Carlson“a vibrant, passionate singer… a wonderfully creative performer, who crafts a fine line between strength and sensitivity.” Marian McPartland, JAZZ PIANIST/HOST OF NPR’S ‘PIANO JAZZ’. Shanna has been singing and playing in and around the Bay Area in big bands, concerts, jazz festivals, recordings, musicals , radio and TV, appearing  with the likes of Joe Williams, Buddy Montgomery, Bruce Forman, Joe Henderson and others.  Listen here.
